David E. Hayes-Bautista, Ph.D. is Professor of Medicine and Director of the Center for the Study of Latino Health and Culture at UCLA. He holds an appointment as Director of the UCLA/ Drew Center of Excellence for Minority Medical Education, David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. Dr. Hayes-Bautista graduated from University of California, Berkeley and completed his MA and Ph.D. in Medical Sociology at the University of California Medical Center, San Francisco.

His research focuses on the dynamics and processes of the health of the Latino population using both quantitative data sets and qualitative observations. The Center for the Study of Latino Health combines these research interests with teaching of medical students, residents and practicing providers to manage the care of a Latino patient base effectively, efficiently and economically.

Dr. Hayes-Bautista is an accredited author and his works have been greatly published, including his books, La Nueva California: Latinos in the Golden State, Healing Latinos: Realidad y Fantasía, & No Longer a Minority: Latinos and Social Policy in California. His publications appear in Family Medicine, the American Journal of Public Health, Family Practice, Medical Care, Academic Medicine, Archives of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine, and Salud Pública de México.
